WS-3 typeworking principle
The reaction between Karl Fischer reagent and water is:
I2 + SO2 +3C5 H5 N+H2 O2C5 H5 N·HI+C5 H5 N·SO3 . ..(1)
C5 H5 N·SO3 OHC5 H5 N·HSO4 CH3 . .............(2)
In the Karl Fischer Coulomb electrolysis method, the sample is added to the reagent and the iodine produced by electrolysis reacts with the water in the sample at the anode. According to Faraday's law, iodine is produced directly proportional to the amount of electricity.
2I- 2eI2
1 mole of iodine reacts quantitatively with 1 mole of water, therefore, 1 milligram of water is equivalent to 10.71 coulombic charges
According to this principle, the water content can be directly determined from the amount of electricity required for electrolysis, and the moisture content of the measured sample can be displayed directly on the monitor through instrument calculation.
