Underwater soil seems to be a convenient and concealed chemical waste dump.
When sampling from underwater soil, the final sample obtained often cannot represent the true stratification of the soil well.
However, using the equipment described in this article, samples that preserve the original structural thickness of the soil layer can still be obtained.
Sediment sampling, Beeker type sampler, sampling depth of 5 meters
A sampler is a tool for static sampling in underwater soil.
The sample is collected in a transparent tube so that it can keep the material in place and make a clear profile description based on it.
Before sampling, place the hardened cutting head at the bottom of the sampling tube and place a gasket at the top. The cutting head and washer are connected by a belt, which is tightened to ensure good fixation of the sampling tube between the two. This structure allows sampling tubes of various lengths (up to 1.5 meters) to be used.
There is a rubber diaphragm inside the cutting head that can be inflated. After reaching the appropriate air pressure, the cutting head is sealed to ensure that the sample can be retained inside when the sampler is taken out.
By using an extension rod and a top rod with a hammer head, the Beeker sampler can be pushed or hammered into the soil.
The sampler is equipped with a piston, which avoids the problem of sample compression.

Sediment sampling, Beeker type sampler

Collect static soil samples from underwater soil using a Beeker sampler.
Before sampling begins, place the piston into the cutting head.
When the cutting head is placed on the sediment to be sampled, the piston is held at a fixed height by a cable (for example, the cable can be tied to the railing of a ship).
During the process of lowering the sampling tube, the piston remains stationary. Insert the sampling tube into the material to be sampled, around the piston.
The partially formed vacuum counteracts any compressive force caused by friction.
useBeekerThe soil sample obtained by the sampler is most compressed4-5%Other sampling devices may compress30%Even more.
After sampling is completed, the sampling tube is sealed and subjected to hydraulic pressure-The pressure discharge and separation equipment allows the sample to be further divided into smaller static samples for further analysis.
The complete set of equipment includes: a complete sediment sampling tool, sampling tubes of various lengths, pistons, top rods, and extension rods, a vacuum/Pressure pump, vacuum/Pressure storage device, hose reel with hose, one discharge/Separation equipment, a set of tools, various accessories, and an aluminum handling box.
advantage
The equipment is complete and comes with a detailed manual.
The soil profile and density are well preserved.
Due to the true diameter of the sample, there are few samples scattered around.

Before sampling begins, place the piston into the cutting head.

Use pump pressure (or vacuum) to pull the cylinder up.
The sampler is lightweight and easy to use, so multiple samples can be collected in one day.
With the pneumatic accumulator and thick hose connection, the sampler is very flexible and versatile.
Samplers can handle sediments of various densities, ranging from high water content and non sticky to loose sandy soil, unaffected by soil stratification.
By using hydraulic pneumatic discharge and separation equipment, it is easy to control the discharge and/or separation of samples.
The standard device can be used in water up to a depth of 5 meters. In some cases, using an extension rod can also collect samples at deeper depths.
Note:
As the sampling depth increases, it becomes increasingly difficult to sample in flowing water.

On the ship, insert a rubber stopper into the sampler. After installing a new sampling tube, take the next sample.

Multi purpose sampler, piston rod control, sampling depth of 5 meters
The multi-purpose sampler was initially developed for sampling in moist solid or liquid materials.
The standard device is suitable for drilling to a depth of 5 meters. The materials used for the multi-purpose sampler are stainless steel, NBR rubber (nitrile butadiene rubber) (piston), and transparent acrylic plastic (sampling tube).
The standard device (with bayonet connection) includes: a multi-purpose sampler with two cutting heads (one for liquid sampling materials and one for solids), sampling tube, piston, extension rod, top rod, and various accessories. The complete set of equipment is shipped in a travel bag with shoulder straps.
Multi purpose samplers can be used to collect anaerobic samples from various wet materials (liquids or solids). By using a piston rod (usually extended with a steel wire rope), the piston can be moved inside the sampling tube while the sampling tube remains fixed, thus preserving the original layering of the sampling material.
advantage
Sampling is simple and fast.
Very little compression can preserve the original thickness and layered structure of the soil layer.
The sampling tube is transparent, allowing for immediate visual inspection of the sample.
The sampling depth can be accurately selected (without mixing with higher soil layers).
One sampling can obtain accurate mixed samples.
The sampling tube can be quickly replaced and cleaned.
The sample (by cutting the ring) remains essentially unchanged without stirring (using a ball valve).

Remove the sampling tube and cover it, then it can be transported to the laboratory.
