Regarding pH electrodes:
At present, a composite electrode is used in many laboratories to determine the pH of a solution. The composite electrode assembles the indicator electrode and the reference electrode together, and the glass ball film is effectively protected, not easily damaged, and easy to use.
Some acidity meters assemble a glass electrode as an indicator electrode and a silver chloride electrode as a reference electrode in two concentric glass tubes, which appear to be a single electrode, known as a composite electrode. The main parts are a glass ball at the bottom of the electrode and a ceramic core with a diameter of about 2 mm in the glass tube. When the composite electrode is inserted into the solution, the ceramic core acts as a salt bridge, connecting the saturated KCI solution of the test solution and the reference electrode. The internal reference electrode (another silver chloride electrode) inside the electrode comes into contact with the test solution through a glass ball. Two silver chloride electrodes are connected to the plugs of the electrodes through wires. The internal reference electrode is connected to the top of the plug and serves as the negative electrode; The reference electrode is connected to the root of the plug as the positive electrode.
