Elesa+Gartner | Self locking Clever Ideas for Chamfered Pin Head Dividing Pin
Date: 2025-05-23Read: 38
Elesa+Genter has always been known for its rich and diverse range of segmented sales products. Nevertheless, its standard components continue to explore new functional areas: indexing pins with chamfered heads have emerged.
Dividing pin is a universal component that can be seen in various scenarios that require locking, fixing, and fastening. Although there are various types and sizes of indexing pins, they all have one thing in common when it comes to locking: by using cylindrical holes that are precisely aligned with the indexing pin head, the pin head can be smoothly inserted to achieve the locking function. Just like the slider smoothly sliding over the locking hole, the whole process is smooth and natural.
In some special cases, locking requirements can be met solely by edges or grooves, and the position of these edges or grooves relative to the indexing pin may not be precise. In response to this situation, Elesa+Genter's new indexing pin can be autonomously locked onto the edges and grooves through chamfered pins. Once the chamfered pin touches the protruding locking geometry, it will cleverly retract and avoid, and when it reaches the predetermined locking point, it will quickly rebound into place to complete the locking action.
The new indexing pin GN 824 comes with axial threads for fixation and a black plastic knob for operating the indexing pin. To ensure reliable locking function when approaching, Elesa+Genter uses hardened, sturdy and durable square section stainless steel to make the pin head, and sets universal dimensions.
The developers of Elesa+Genter took into account all the details: when using standard M12... M20 threads to screw in and fix the indexing pin, the chamfer pin may initially be at any angle. To ensure that it can make vertical contact with the mating surface, simply loosen the set screw on the base ring and rotate the pin 360 degrees for adjustment. The markings on the ring can indicate the direction of the chamfer pin, even if the pin head is not visible.
If it is necessary to temporarily disable the indexing pin during actual use to prevent automatic locking, C-type and CK type with fixed stop positions can be used. When the pin is retracted and the knob is rotated 90 degrees, the positioning slot will fix the knob in that position. Models with locking nuts can achieve personalized adjustment of locking depth by adjusting the position of the locking nut on the installation thread.
The chamfered indexing pin is suitable for scenarios that require quick and safe locking. For example, applications such as transportation frames, mechanical devices, or covers, especially those that do not require manual intervention.

Elesa+Gartner self-locking design with indexing pins not limited to GN 824. The GN 724 series also has the same function, with more diverse shapes and installation methods. In addition to a simple positioning plunger with an operating ring that can be fixed by threading or welding, this series also includes a positioning plunger with steel or stainless steel spring latch. When the latch arm moves along the arc-shaped edge of the housing, it will generate axial displacement, causing the positioning plunger pin to retract and maintain a retracted state until the latch arm rotates out of the positioning slot at the end of the arc.
